Summer Fest Eve Celebrations
West Seattle Summerfest is only a week out! We’re really excited to open the streets and have the best block party of the year. One of the local traditions of the festival is Summer Fest Eve. The night before the festival opens, Thursday July 9th, the streets will be closing at 6pm in The Junction to allow for preliminary set-up. It’s also the perfect opportunity for our local businesses and the neighborhood to have some fun, bring in some live entertainment, and enjoy the building anticipation for all of the excitement that the next three days will bring. West Seattle Art Walk will be kicking off the start of its third quarter on Summer Fest Eve, Thursday July 9th, from 6-9pm. Stop by all of the participating businesses to view great local art, have light refreshments, and even have the opportunity to meet some of the artists themselves. Visit the West Seattle Art Walk blog to find out more about the exhibiting artists and their work, to locate the interactive third quarter Art Walk map, and to learn about all the special events and extra fun planned at each of the participating locations. West 5 (4539 California Ave SW) will be setting up their outdoor cafe as soon as the streets close at 6pm on Thursday night, and will have Phillip Parsons (one of their bartenders) performing some light music on acoustic guitar. Starting at 7pm, The Jazz Night School All Star Big Band – Led by Erik Hanson, Jazz Night School’s Executive Director – will be performing:
“The JNS All-Star Big Band owes its genesis to Pacific Northwest jazz band directing icon, Hal Sherman, who launched it in 2013 […]. The ensemble performs regularly and plays many great, hard-to-find big band arrangements on generous loan from Hal Sherman.”Jazz Night School is a non profit, music education organization that provides a variety of exceptional experiences in jazz for people of all ages, levels and backgrounds. This includes music instruction and performance ensemble classes, public music performances and more. Jazz Night School is Seattle’s largest all-ages jazz program. On Thursday evening, July 9th, Elliott Bay Brewery and Pub (4720 California Ave SW) will have musician Pat Reardon playing kid and adult-friendly tunes from 6pm-10pm. Magician Darrell Fisher will also be performing. Also during Summer Fest, on Saturday evening, they will have “Insane Chastain Balloons” performing from 6-9pm, as well as the acoustical duet Justine & Paul from 5-9pm.
