Please join us for February Art Walk, tomorrow night from 6 – 9pm! Spend the evening strolling and exploring West Seattle while enjoying paintings, prints, photography, and more. This free art event is hosted by our local businesses, both in The Junction and in greater West Seattle. Many businesses will also be inviting their featured artist(s) to meet the public and answer questions. Complimentary nibbles and drinks will be on hand at many venues for all to enjoy. The following businesses and artists will be participating:
Junction Plaza Park was dedicated in 2010. Its development resulted from a tremendous community effort that transformed an old gas station site into a park and plaza. The original park design called for the installation of an art piece, but at the time of construction, funds did not allow.
Now funding ($50,000) has been allocated for the creation of a significant piece of public art to be installed at the north/central border of the park. Through an international “call for artists” and formal selection process, West Seattle artist Troy Pillow was selected as the sculptor.
The Junction Plaza Park Public Art Selection Committee reviewed many applications and selected Troy based on his work alone. It is exciting though that he also happens to be a local artist and that such a significant piece of public art will be made for Junction Plaza Park by a West Seattle resident.
This public art initiative, and the committee created to shepherd it, is a collaboration between the West Seattle Junction Association (WSJA), the Junction Neighborhood Organization (JuNO), and Seattle Parks and Recreation. At this time we are inviting the broader community and Junction neighborhood to give us feedback on the direction of the artwork. We hope you can attend!
The meeting will be held at Cupcake Royale (on the corner of California and Alaska in The Junction) from 6-8pm on Thursday, February 11th, duringWest Seattle Art Walk. Troy will be on hand to present the designs he has been working on for the park. Representatives of WSJA and JuNO will also be attending and will be available to answer questions. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, we will be posting the proposed designs and a link to a short survey to gather public feedback online. This will all be available at 6:00pm on February 11th and will be open for one week (until February 18th).
Please join us at this important meeting and lend your voice to help shape the public art that will become a key feature in our neighborhood park!
Emerald Water Anglers (EWA) is excited to announce their continued support and participation in the international Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T). EWA has been a part of this celebration of fly fishing on film since the inaugural tour in 2007. Through EWA’s advocacy efforts, 2016 will be the first year that this tour will visit West Seattle. It’s coming to the Historic Admiral Theater on Wednesday, February 3rd, and you’re invited to attend!
Here’s a little more about the tour:
“From Bolivia to the Seychelles, British Columbia and Patagonia, from Saskatchewan to Zambia and Virginia to Montana, the notable characters, unique storylines and unparalleled fishing in these films will lead you on an adventure around the globe!
In addition to showcasing world-class fly fishing films, The F3T is dedicated to supporting the local fly shops and conservation groups that form the backbone of our sport’s educational and environmental efforts. Discount F3T tickets are available at more than 150 fly shops across the country. A portion of those ticket sales go directly to support fishing and habitat-related conservation groups. In 2015 we raised over $300,000 for our conservation partners and have used our voice to bring greater attention and support to groups like Trout Unlimited, Wild Steelhead Coalition, Bonefish Tarpon Trust, Utah Stream Access Coalition, Stop Pebble Mine and many more.”
Dave, owner of Emerald Water Anglers, is particularly excited for “Chrome”, a film that captures the Wild Steelhead fly fishing experience in British Columbia. Patagonia Ambassadors, Kate Taylor and Dylan Tomine are featured in the film. They happen to both be Pacific NW locals (from Rockaway Beach, Oregon and Bainbridge Island, respectively) and are friends with many of the guides and staff at EWA.
Special discounted tickets for the West Seattle stop on the tour are available at Emerald Water Anglers in The Junction. Stop by the store to get your ticket and check out their great selection of outdoor gear, including favorites by Patagonia, Simms, and more. Hurry though! Tickets are selling fast and anticipated to sell out before the event.
If you are interested in learning more about fly fishing or taking your cast to the next level, connect with the guides at EWA! The whole staff will be on hand at the film tour to meet up, answer questions, and swap stories. You can also stop by the store in The Junction to learn more and get personal recommendations from sportswomen and men who really know their stuff. EWA is also currently booking both local and international guide trips. Whether you want to day-trip to fish the Sound or head out to Mongolia on an adventure of a lifetime – they have you covered. Check out all available trips on their website (you can find local trips here and international, out-of-state, and other Washington destination trips here).

Cupcake Royale is excited to announce that Deathcake Royale is once again back in The Junction, but only for a limited time! What is Deathcake Royale you might be asking? It’s only the most decadent, sea-salt sprinkled, dark chocolate confection around! Cupcake Royale recently improved the recipe and changed the way that it’s presented:
“Coming to you in a whole new form, the bakers have made it portable and re-heatable. Rich sea-salted dark chocolate decadence (flourless cake) is slow poached in a mason jar and baked to perfection. Next, a layer of our award-winning chocolate cake is placed directly on top of the decadence. The next layer is a smooth Stumptown espresso chocolate ganache and finished off with a sprinkling of delicate chocolate curls. Decadent? You bet.”
You can also get Deathcake in a gluten-free version, making it the perfect treat for any Chocoholic! The traditional chocolate cake is replaced with Cupcake Royale’s award-winning gluten-free chocolate cake. It’s still every bit as delicious and decadent!
Deathcake Royale is coming back just in time for Valentine’s Day. Have a secret crush, neighbor, sweetie, co-worker, pal, life coach, family member, teacher and/or boss you’d like to impress or treat? This is the perfect way to really show them you love them to death. The Deathcake will be available starting January 18 through February 14 at Cupcake Royale cafes, like the one here in The Junction.
Did we mention that it’s also shippable? Send someone you love a little piece of Seattle and treat them to this unique chocolate experience. Since each Deathcake is baked directly in a jar, it makes sharing, gifting, and enjoying that much easier. You can even heat them up in the oven or microwave to enjoy ooey, gooey warm melted chocolate goodness!
Bin 41 is having a special reserve tasting next Tuesday, January 26 from 6:30-7:30pm. Reserve your spot now to experience some great wines from an Italian biodynamic (organic) winery, Querciabella, who is making wines in a very unique way. This special sit-down style tasting will be held in the cozy front space of Bin 41 right here in The Junction.
Here’s a little more about the event from Bin 41:
“We have the opportunity to do a special, sit down style tasting in our front space next Tuesday, 01.26.2016 from 6:30-7:30 pm. While it’s a bit short notice, these are some really cool Italian wines from a producer that is biodynamic including a proprietary farming regime known as ‘cruelty-free’ biodynamic; meaning they use no animal derived products in either the grape growing or vinification. Therefore the wines are vegan with no animal-based products such as egg whites used for fining.”
Bin 41 will also have a representative from the winery, Querciabella, on hand to lead the tasting. Founded in Greve Tuscany in 1974, Querciabella is a producer of single site, terroir driven wines from five distinct communes: Greve, Panzano, Radda, Gaiole and Maremma on the Etruscan coast. Owner Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni has been an accomplished industrial designer, art collector and a vegetarian/animal rights activist for nearly thirty years. Born in 1966 in Milan, Sebastiano under the tutilege of his father Giuseppe Castiglioni, was introduced at an early age to the world of fine wine. With a strong conviction to the environmental movement he converted the estate to organic viticulture in 1988 and biodynamics in 2000.
Bin 41 is also offering an amazing deal for this tasting. Due to the short notice of this event, they have been able to arrange to have the tasting for only $10 per person (with reservations required). The line-up will include one of Querciabella’s reserve super Tuscans, Palafreno 2010, which retails for $200. This special treat is being opened just for this tasting, and Bin 41 is excited to be able to try it with you!
Bin 41 will also have special pricing available to those who attend the tasting. They need 12 people to sign up to make this tasting a go, so don’t wait! Get your RSVP sent in by this Sunday to attend! You can RSVP by calling them at (206) 937-0411 or by emailing at .
