Earth Day at Fleurt

Tomorrow – Friday, April 22nd – is Earth Day. Please join Fleurt in celebrating our planet by dropping off your gently used vases, containers, pots and jars. In exchange for helping to recycle and keep waste out of our landfills, Fleurt will be giving away a mini cactus for every drop off!

Earth Day at Fleurt
These adorable little cacti add lots of personality to your home, make great modern centerpieces, and require very little care. Snag one for your own southwest-inspired zen garden and feel good about helping to do your part for the environment.

This event will be going on all weekend-long from, Friday through Sunday at Fleurt in The Junction. Fleurt is open daily until 5pm.

“The Sonics’ Record Store Day in-store last year was one of the biggest and most awesome events we’ve ever hosted, featuring guests such as Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready, Ben Shepherd (Soundgarden), the Screaming Trees’ Mark Pickerel and Van Conner, Emily Nokes (Tacocat), Chris Ballew (Presidents Of The United States Of America, Caspar Babypants), Matt Lukin (Mudhoney), and many others (including original Sonics bassist Andy Parypa). We’ve heard the vinyl, and trust us, it sounds absolutely fantastic.”

Greg Vandy Book Signing & Q&A – 3pm-6pm

Record Store Day 2016

Greg Vandy is host of KEXP’s “The Roadhouse” and the man behind the online magazine American Standard Time, which focuses on American roots music. Vandy’s latest project is a book titled 26 Songs In 30 Days: Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River Songs & The Planned Promised Land In The Pacific Northwest, which tells the story of how Woody Guthrie wrote all those songs in that little time – including classics like “Roll On Columbia” and “Pastures of Plenty” – when he was hired by the Bonneville Power Administration to promote the benefits of cheap hydroelectric power, irrigation, and the Grand Coulee Dam. Vandy takes readers inside the unusual partnership between one of America’s great folk artists and the federal government, and shows how the first American folk revival of the 1930’s was a response to hard times.

Vandy will participate in a live Q&A with Easy Street’s own Andy Nelson starting at 3pm on Record Store Day, followed by book signing until 6pm.

Local band, the Acapulco Lips will be playing at a special Record Store Day in-store event starting at 7pm at Easy Street. Here’s a little more about the event:

“Acapulco Lips’ self-titled debut album (out 4/15) is also the debut of their Southwest Seattle-based label, Killroom Records, who say the local trio is “bound together by a studied adoration towards the loud, reckless, rebellious sonic traditions of psych, garage, soul, and surf rock…from transporting guitar jangles, assertively revved up percussion, boogie-friendly bass breakdowns, topped with disarmingly charming coos and aahs.” Come see them mix it all up at Easy Street, 7pm on RSD!”

Konzuk Trunk Show at Click! Design That Fits

Konzuk Trunk Show

Click! Design That Fits is proud to welcome artist Karen Konzuk for a special trunk on Saturday, April 16 from 10am to 5pm. Konzuk is a PNW-based jeweler working out of Vancouver, BC. She’s known for her modern, minimal designs featuring industrial materials like stainless steel and concrete, often juxtaposed with precious metals and diamonds.

Konzuk’s recent move from the fast-paced city to a remote coastal location provided a new venue for inspiration. Typically influenced by art, design and architecture, the designer found her attention drawn to something new – the landscape around her. The collection is about taking a moment to appreciate things like the stars in the night sky,” says Konzuk. Referencing recognizable modern sculpture and star systems, the collection utilizes concrete & diamond dust inlaid into stainless steel.

Konzuk Trunk Show

On April 16th, Click! will be holding a launch of Konzuk’s Stellar collection. Along with her other jewelry collections (which feature coal black concrete and ombre concrete spheres), she will be bringing her line of modern commitment rings. Click! is excited to share that they’ll have times available for people to sign up & meet with her for a ring consultation.

Expect a gorgeous spread of her full jewelry lines, and time to meet this one of a kind designer / maker.

Community Artwork Dedication & Celebration

JuNO, The Junction Neighborhood Organization, and WSJA, The West Seattle Junction Association are having a dedication ceremony to celebrate the installation of 10 Symbolic West Seattle Historic bronze panels by local artist Lezlie Jane. Join us on April 7th from 6-7pm, at Starbucks (on the SE corner of California Ave and SW Alaska Street) as we celebrate this important milestone in Junction history.

Community Artwork Dedication & Celebration

The bronze panels & glass artwork by Lezlie Jane, along with the metal artwork by Miguel Edwards, reflect the evolution of the community. The artwork and other building improvements were a result of six years of community involvement working with the current owner Equity Residential, the former developer Conner Homes, and the City of Seattle to make this a great building for The Junction. This building has been the active center of West Seattle since 1907 and we’re excited that this artwork will be featured so prominently in our neighborhood.

Lezlie Jane will share her story on the 10 historic bronze panels which are installed in alcoves of the brick columns around of the Junction 47 building Starbucks store. The bas-relief panels were hand carved in clay, cast in bronze, then finished with a custom patina. Each panel has art depicting past and present places that are unique to the Duwamish Peninsula and the history of West Seattle. These panels include:

  • Fir Lodge/The Log House Museum
  • Geographic Legacy/4.8 Miles of Beach
  • Duwamish/The First People/ DKH’ DUW”ABSH/Time immemorial
  • Old Mudhole/Colman Pool Lincoln Park
  • Alki Point/ 1868 Lighthouse
  • First Ferryboat/1888
  • Fauntleroy Creek/Longfellow Creek
  • City Views/Then and Now
  • Alaska Junction/1907
  • Station 32/ Seattle Fire Department

We hope you will join us in celebrating the installation of this artwork. Stop by to meet the artist, developer, city officials, and community volunteers who helped make it a reality and view the panels for the first time along with your fellow neighbors.
