West Seattle August Art Walk is tomorrow night from 6-9pm. Stop by our participating businesses here in The Junction and in larger West Seattle to have the opportunity to view great art. Many venues will also be offering beverages and snacks and hosting special events, such as the opportunity to meet the artist(s) and hear more about the work. Here’s what’s planned:
The West Seattle art walk is a monthly art event that is held the second Thursday of each month 6pm to 9pm year-round. The art walk is hosted by the local West Seattle merchants who feature a wide range of art and showcase our vibrant artist community.
Join us for Art Walk this Thursday August 13th and support our community art scene!
There will be concessions by The Southwest Historical Society, a FREE community BBQ (sponsored by the West Seattle Christian Church), and pre-show entertainment by Jackrabbit Starts.
Our featured charities for the evening are the West Seattle Food Bank and the White Center Food Bank. We will be accepting food donations for the food banks as well as having the regular WSOM raffle to benefit these charities.
Elvis will be gracing the stage of the Senior Center of West Seattle tomorrow night, Friday July 31st, for an evening of rocking fun and great southern comfort food, all approved of by the King of course. The no-host Happy Hour and free photos with the King (compliments of Gail Ann Photography) starts at 5:30pm. Dinner will begin at 6:00pm with the live show starting at 6:30pm. Register now to get the best rate on your tickets by emailing www.sc-ws.org or by calling (206) 932-4044 ext 1.
This event is a fundraiser for the Senior Center. The Senior Center of West Seattle strives to promote independence and life enjoyment by providing access to medical/legal services, community housing resources, lifelong learning opportunities and social events to keep seniors engaged in our community.
There will be concessions by The Southwest Historical Society and pre-show entertainment by Jeremy Serwer and the Spaghetti Benders. Our featured charity for the evening is WestSide Baby. As previously mentioned, we will also be accepting diaper donations at the event plus having the regular WSOM raffle all to benefit the charity.

West Seattle Outdoor Movies presents Raising Arizona
On June 14th, the West Seattle Farmers Market celebrated a big milestone in its history – it made its permanent move to California Avenue in The Junction. The move has given the Farmers Market extra room and a better layout which has resulted in space for more vendors and record breaking attendance. We’re excited to see how it’s grown and can’t wait to find out what’s in store for the Market in the future.
Recently the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, the team that manages the West Seattle Farmers Market, shared this short video about the move made by Watching West Seattle. We in turn would like to share it with you. Thanks for supporting our local Market and the farmers who make it possible!
This Saturday night, join us for another installment of 2015 West Seattle Outdoor Movies as we feature the 1992 local cult favorite, Singles (PG-13), sponsored by West Seattle Blog and Elliott Bay Brewing! BONUS, bring your lucky flannel and see if you can spot your favorite locations around Seattle that are featured in the film. Allegedly, there’s a West Seattle scene too.
Junction Plaza Park’s construction was complete in 2010 and it has been a welcome addition to the neighborhood ever since. Now we are on the cusp of realizing the park’s full vision by announcing a Call for Artists to create a major art installation. With funding from an alley vacation agreement through The Spruce Project, we have $25,000 to invest in a new piece of neighborhood art.
Summer Fest weekend went by in a whirlwind of color, music, fun. We had a great time organizing the festival, and were thrilled to see how many people posted and shared the good times being had at Summer Fest on their social media. Perusing your photos under the hashtag #wssummerfest was the perfect capstone to our Summer Fest experience, but choosing a winner for the #wssummerfest photo contest was not easy!
We had so many very excellent entries from across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with Instagram (not surprisingly) being the most heavily represented. We wanted to include a few shout-outs to some amazing honorable mentions that we’ve included in the photo mosaic above:
We thought that her Instagram pic really captures the essence of Summer Fest family fun and having new experiences together – which gets exactly to the heart of the festival. Wouldn’t it be amazing to relive seeing your first live band? We felt like we did when we saw Tracy’s photo!
Tracy has won a $100 shopping spree to The Junction! We’d like to say congrats to Tracy, and to everyone who participated in the contest. We’re already looking forward to planning next year’s Summer Fest and can’t wait to blow your minds once again. Thanks for coming out this past weekend!
This weekend kicks off the first night of film fun for 2015 West Seattle Outdoor Movies! We have a great line-up planned for this season and can’t wait to get the neighborhood together to watch FREE moviesevery Saturday from July 18th through August 22nd.
This Saturday, our feature film is the 2001 comedy “Zoolander” starring Ben Stiller, rated PG-13.
