WA State Farmers Market Week Aug 7-13
August 7–13 is Farmers Market Week in Washington State! A whole week dedicated to celebrating our connections to local family farms all across Washington. In Seattle, residents enjoy numerous opportunities each week to buy direct from local farmers. Real farmers markets are the only place to get truly fresh-from-the-farm, in-season produce – including dozens of items not available in regular grocery stores (think anise hyssop, amaranth greens, heirloom shelling beans, half-flats of Marion berries, gooseberries and strawberries, huge heads of heirloom lettuces). Farmers markets are also the only place in the city to meet the folks who grow our food, learn about our local farms, discover what’s truly in season, shop outdoors, rain or shine! To celebrate Farmers Market Week and the wonderful bounty from over 100 local family farms, we are hosting a drawing at West Seattle Farmers Market for a Farmers Market Gift Basket! The basket contains a copy of local celebrity chef Tamara Murphy’s cookbook Tender and is filled with a selection of products from our market farmers. Enter to win at the market during farmers market week – must be present to win! Drawing takes place one hour before market closing time. *Photo: NMFA
