Glass Float Hunt Returns this August

Are you up for an adventure? The West Seattle Glass Float Hunt is back for its third year, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Mark your calendars for the first two weeks of August, because you won’t want to miss this community favorite, hosted by the West Seattle Junction Association and the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce.

Where can you find the floats:

We’ve expanded the hunt beyond the Junction and now all West Seattle businesses are invited to participate and hide multiple floats. Starting August 1, 2024, they will be hiding beautiful glass floats both indoors and out. It’s not just a hunt; it’s a celebration of our vibrant community and a fantastic way to explore the neighborhood while supporting local shops and eateries.

Who makes the floats:

This year’s glass floats, crafted by Avalon Glassworks, are gorgeous green swirls that mirror the stunning waters around West Seattle. Each 4-inch sphere is hand-blown, stamped with a heart and “WS” on the bottom, and tucked into a knotted net bag.

How it works:

Float hunters can venture out on their own or go to our Instagram account (West Seattle Junction Association) for clues on where to find the beautiful floats. When you find one, snap a pic and share it on Instagram, tagging the business where you discovered it or if found outside, the name of the sponsor found on the float tag. It’s a great way to celebrate your find and give a shoutout to our awesome local business partners.

Last year, participants spent thousands of dollars in West Seattle, turning this fun hunt into a great boost for our local economy. Businesses welcomed fresh faces, and some even sold out of special items thanks to the influx of enthusiastic float hunters.
