BBQ Buffet Fundraiser Moonshine Shimmy

Moonshine ShimmyGet ready for a Moonshine Shimmy with all proceeds going to the Senior Center of West Seattle.

Thursday, August 18 from 5pm to 7:30pm

Brookdale 4611 35th Ave SW

Earlier in the year when the residents at Brookdale West Seattle heard that United Way would be cutting $60,000 in funding to the Senior Center of West Seattle, they decided they wanted to raise some money in order to help reduce the deficit in income the Senior Center of West Seattle would be facing.  Brookdale staff then met with Senior Center staff and came up with an idea for a BBQ buffet, dancing to live music by the Haggis Brothers, a raffle.

On the buffet menu: BBQ chicken & ribs, brats, coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, and cornbread.  All for just $15, which includes a glass of Moonshine!

A shuttle will be running throughout the evening back and forth from the Senior Center to Brookdale so that guests can park in the lot behind the Senior Center.

You can register in  advance by August 11th. Call 206 932 4044 x1.

We are one week away from National Night Out Against Crime (Tuesday, August 2nd).

Many of your neighbors have registered their events with the Seattle Police Department; which they very much appreciate that, and the invitations you have extended to to stop by your neighborhood events.

If you haven’t yet registered your event, it’s not too late. The registration link is active until 5pm, Monday, August 1st.  This event is always fun and a great way to reconnect with neighbors and meet new ones.

Use the following link to register your event; registration will allow you to block off your (non-arterial) street –

Shelby’s Bistro and Ice Creamery Opens in the Junction

Ribbon has been cut to announce the grand opening today of Shelby’s Bistro and Ice Creamery. As Shelby quotes “The ribbon cutting is at 10:45 am and then a new icon opens on the corner of California Ave SW and SW Edmonds St!”

We had a chance to sample some of the delicious food during Shelby’s soft opening over the weekend. The caesar salad was well-presented with crisp green lettuce, a tangy dressing, and was piled high with a generous amount of crispy croutons. The salmon burger had a delightful smoky finish nestled between two soft, pillowy buns. Lunch was finished with a scoop of chocolate cookie dough ice cream drizzled in caramel sauce.

Elliott Bay Brewing Company is re-brewing the Alpine Lakes Pale, and on Summer Fest Eve (tonight), they will be hosting the official release of this tasty beverage for everyone to sample and enjoy! This charity beer was brewed in honor of the passage of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Additions passed in December of 2014!

From the Alpine Lakes Pale Challenge Page:

Last year in February we celebrated the passage of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Additions in December of 2014 by drinking a pint of success, the Alpine Lakes Pale. And it was delicious, and even better news is it is BACK! Elliott Bay Brewing Company has generously agreed to brew this charity beer again- $1 for every pint sold of the entire batch will be donated to Washington Wild.

In 2015, to trigger the release of the original Alpine Lakes Pale release Brewshed® Supporters like you helped us raise over $3,000 and now we want your help to do it again! For every $5 you donate, the cost of a pint, a raffle ticket will be entered in your name to win free swag! 1st Place is a mixed case of 12 22’s Icicle Brewing Company Beer (Dirty Face Amber, Crosscut Pilsner, Bootjack IPA, and Dark Persuasion). 2nd Place is tickets to our next Pub Crawl this summer and 3rd Place is an Art Wolfe Book.

In addition to our music, shopping and dining, this year the folks at Next to Nature will be presenting Pet Junction. Stop by to check out their favorite vendors and nonprofits. Pet Junction will be offering a host of resources to be good companions for our pets. You will find information on keeping your pet in good health, opportunities to meet local animal relief organizations, and lots of fun for our furry friends.

5 Tips for Shopping Summer Fest

The West Seattle Summer Fest (July 8th-10th) is well on the way to being one of the premiere festivals in Seattle. In addition to the music schedule, you’ll find a wide array of shopping options for the entire family.

Here we’re sharing some of our tips for shopping Summer Fest:

  1. Being a recycling city, bring a couple of canvas bags to fill up with goodies. Check out Avalon Glassworks (booth 44) for some summer-inspired gifts and unique glass jewelry.
  2. Water is a must when you’re strolling the streets. A number of vendors will be giving away free water bottles. Stop by for some refreshments and meet the friendly folks at the booths.
  3. Start by the music stage to work yourself down the street. Take a fill from the beer garden before you dive into the shopping.
  4. Take a break at many of the outdoor cafes. Don’t shop on an empty stomach. Taking a break at one of the outdoor cafes (we recommend Elliot Bay Brewing, West 5 and Seattle Fish), all have great food and people watching.
  5. Remember to shop inside at many of the merchants too. You’ll find sales during Summer Fest you may not find during the year. Click! Design that Fits and Fleurt usually have great sales.

Countdown to Summer Fest Music!

Summer_Fest_Band1 Summer Fest 2016 is a week away! We’re so excited to host an amazing weekend of awesome local music, great shopping, delicious festival food, and more. Come hang out with us and get in on the best party of the year in West Seattle!

This year we’re particularly stoked for the music. We’ve put together a line-up of some of the best bands in the PNW. These are acts that you would normally have to pay hard cash to see at our local clubs and venues in Seattle, but we’re bringing them all together for three days of FREE live music. Why free you may ask? Because West Seattle is the best neighborhood in the city (naturally), and we love having the chance to say thanks to all our local people while inviting the entire metro area to come see what’s just across the bridge. We throw a mean party!

So who’s playing this year?

Our 2016 headliners include Tacocat, Grace Love & the True Loves, and Chastity Belt. We’ll be rounding out the lineup with performances by over 20 bands, musicians, and DJs including Pillar Point, Hobosexual, The Dusty 45’s, Bread & Butter, Acapulco Lips, Crater, Draemhouse, Maszer, and more! You can explore the full lineup, watch videos by each band, and get to know the schedule better all on the Summer Fest website – just click on the MUSIC page to get started.

You can also listen to select tracks from the lineup on from our curated YouTube playlist. Just press play, sit back, and enjoy!
